Tracey L. Ohta joined Watanabe Ing, LLP as an associate in 2010. Her areas of practice include creditors’ rights and business law, lender liability and title issue litigation, and intellectual property, technology and internet law. Ms. Ohta has worked on cases of all types and sizes, from the collection of personal loans to large foreclosures. In her primary area of practice in intellectual property, technology and internet law, her work has included trademark and copyright matters.
Before joining Watanabe Ing, Ms. Ohta clerked for the Honorable Simeon R. Acoba, Jr., Associate Justice of the Hawai‘i Supreme Court. Since joining Watanabe Ing, Ms. Ohta has developed a strong background in intellectual property law, and has applied her legal skills in giving back to the local community. Since 2012, Ms. Ohta has conducted free public seminars on intellectual property rights in partnership with the Hawai‘i State Library. She has also been featured in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser as a local expert on the topic of intellectual property.
A hardworking attorney with a deep passion for law, Ms. Ohta is consistently dedicated to her clients and works to find the best solutions for both parties for each case she works on.
Ms. Ohta has served on the Board of the Intellectual Property and Technology Law Section of the Hawaii State Bar Association since 2014 and currently serves as the section’s chairperson. Ms. Ohta was also recently asked to serve on the Board of Directors for the non-profit organization Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies, Hawaii Coalition, where she currently serves as the board’s secretary. Ms. Ohta’s past leadership positions include serving on the Board of Directors for the William S. Richardson School of Law Alumni Association from 2009 through 2014, first as a Dean’s appointee from 2009 through 2011 and then as the board’s treasurer from 2011 through 2014.
While attending the William S. Richardson School of Law, Ms. Ohta served as a secretary and student representative on the Student Bar Association, and competed on the University’s Intellectual Property Moot Court Team. Ms. Ohta also served as an extern for the Honorable Richard R. Clifton, United States Court of Appeals Judge for the Ninth Circuit.
