Thomas Yee, an experienced local litigator, joined Watanabe Ing, LLP in 2012 as part of the creditors’ rights and business law group. He spent over ten years with a prominent Honolulu law firm exploring and practicing several disciplines within the realm of commercial litigation. He also served as in-house counsel for a major Hawai‘i bank with a focus on protecting depositors’ financial privacy rights. His diverse background and varied experience has prepared Mr. Yee comprehensively for his current concentration representing creditors in collection, bankruptcy and foreclosure actions.
Mr. Yee is a strong proponent for client education and awareness. He has developed a specialty in the area of regulatory compliance for financial institutions and is available to ensure that new products and practices comply with a complex, ever-changing body of regulations. In particular, he has seen a growing need to maintain current best policies and procedures in the fall-out of the recent recession, with an increasing trend toward the aggressive pursuit of potential claims against creditors. He believes that early and detailed involvement is the key to avoiding pitfalls. Armed with the correct information and full access to his resources, Mr. Yee’s clients are equipped to handle these new hazards of the business as well as the previously established issues.
Thorough and thoughtful, Mr. Yee balances his professional accomplishments with a steady sense of humility. No task is too daunting and no client question too foolish. Past cases have had Mr. Yee combing through documents over a million pages in length, searching for the significant amongst the massive insignificant. The search yielded key results, and Mr. Yee brings this same tenacity and focus to all of his projects. He also does not forget the importance of mentorship at the start of his career and how appreciative he was for support and guidance. His diverse background has now put him in a position where he is able to support, guide and answer any and all questions his clients might have.
